Q: What is the best neighborhood in which to sleep in a car in San Antonio, Texas?
Hi — I’m using free wifi and charging my batteries in a cafe close to downtown San Antonio. Does anyone have any recommendations where a person might go in order to park for free and sleep overnight in his rental car? (I have a good sleeping bag for warmth and the back seat’s actually pretty comfortable, so don’t worry about that stuff.) It would be good if the recommended area had a bar or other such late-night place I could hang out in before turning in, and/or a good place to grab a coffee and maybe wash my face in the morning. I am a brown skinned guy, sometimes characterized as a hipster scumbag yuppie, so if that helps . . . I guess I would want to avoid areas where I would be an obvious target for harassment from either criminals or attention from the authorities.

A: I would recommend that you stay somewhere north of Commerce. There are certain areas where the police would be more likely to roust you. Avoid the Alamo Heights, Olmos Park and Terrell Hills areas which are north of Downtown and inside Loop 410. Avoid Castle Hills which is North of Loop 410 around Blanco and NW Military. Avoid Hollywood Park which is North of 410 off Hwy 281, and avoid the Stone Oak/Sonterra area North of Loop 1604 west of Hwy 281. The police in these areas are just a little more vigilant.

A friend of mine who drives often and needs to stop and sleep finds that parking in the back area of hotel parking lots is normally a good area, as they are usually close to restaurants, bars, and are convenient to the roads.

Q: Does San Antonio, Texas have easy to use public transportation?
I’m visiting a relative who will be graduating from basic training at Lackland air force base in Texas. I’m wondering if it’s easy to get to the base from San Antonio’s city center without having to rent a car. I’d like to use public transportation during the trip to hit most tourist spots and the air force base. Is that possible?

A: Yes there are buses that go to Lackland. You may have to do a bit of walking, however, to get from the base entrance to the graduation. Bus 65 takes you to Lackland, and 611, 612, 613, 614, and 615 take you by there. I suggest that you take a taxi from time to time or have one of his friends’ parents or friends drive you around a bit. It’s a bit of a hike.

As far as downtown goes… All the tourist attractions are really close together, so you’ll have no problem.

A: its hard to find an honest good mechanic these days, Ive had my car fixed by some mechanics that post their services on craigslist, and have had good results so far. you might want to look there most of your garages will charge you an arm and a leg. hope this helps look under services and then automotive.

My bf didn’t plan too well when we moved from FL to TX and now we have realized that to not lose our cars and have a place to live, we have to make $23/hour between the two of us.

He is a chef; two year degree in culinary arts but has been out of the cooking industry for about 6 years. He’s done private cooking on the side but worked in clerical-type jobs around $12/hour back home. He’s 36, hispanic, if that matters for the San Antonio area…

A: Look on ebay. Just make sure to check the sellers feedback ratings. You can pinpoint cars that are just around your area. I have bought 2 vehicles from ebay and am very happy with what I received and what I paid. Just make sure to read the ad carefully and if you have questions, ask the seller before you bid.

I dont live in the city (San Antonio-Texas) so as far as a safety hazard is concerned it’s no problem, the tank will be on my ranch.

A: well your goinna need a cryo-pump, to compress to liquid state. since water gas is mostly carbon monoxide and methane. and if it is highly compressed, you won’t need a pump. since it is already under pressure, like areosol cans. you open the valve and it is going somewhere. but the two different material might require two different cylinders for compression requiring a mixing regulators. since they do not liquify at the same, compression stage. might be your only difficulty.

Q: I recently recieved a speeding ticket in texas. do i have a chance if i fight it?
I was told i was going 40 in a 30 in san antonio, texas (78239 Windcrest police department). the officer put my name on it but forgot the “II”. does this mean the ticket is for my father and it can be dismissed? also the officer put my race as white when my drivers license says different. can this be used to plead my case? lastly there was a car directly in front of me and one in the next lane behind me. is there away to question which car he clocked on his radar? thanks

A: There is no legal requirement to dismiss a ticket due to an error. I have seen it done on rare occasions, but only when the error relates directly to the offense. The ones you mentioned have nothing to do with the offense, so I doubt the court will give them any consideration. They will not confuse you for your dad, as the ticket has your date of birth and drivers license number.

Having other cars in the area could be an issue. An experienced officer will document why he believed it was you speeding. You can request a copy of his report through he department.

Okay. You two are both right:

I called them again and told them that I would order the part myself from a company that sells new parts for 1/2 the price. (I know, it’s probably not safe.)

They are charging me:

1) $75 towing
2) $80 for diagnostics of the car when it came in
3) $49.99 for Fuel Injection
4) $55.00 labor to replace Fuel Injection
5) $20.00 for “disposable fees” — I’ve never heard of this. Is this legitimate?
6) And finally, $160.00 to install the new fuel pump that I ordered myself.

Grand total = $439.99 plus tax equals $445.58. I’m not sure if that is the correct amount for tax.

I ordered the 1988 Isuzu Rodeo fuel pump from partstrain.com for $364.95.

All in all, what do you guys think now? They WERE going to charge me (originally) $922.50.

Furthermore, they said that if I order the parts myself, that means they cannot give me the warranty because it’s not their parts (which I understand).

So? Any opinions?

A: That is a hell of alot…..but replacing a fuel pump is a shitty job i must admit so im not suprised. On most cars it requires removing the gas tank to do it. Do you know any mechanics-people who do work on the side? If so get with them, they will probably do it for less than half of that.

A: They sell salvaged vehicles. Fair warning: Drew Roicki only tells you what you want to year… now, whether that is the truth or not, that’s another story. Every single thing he has ever said to me is a LIE!! I purchased a vehicle that should have never been sold. It was salvaged and never “re-titled” to be street legal. Technically it should not even be driven. I don’t understand how he can get away with this. But the least I can do is get the word out.

If I were you, I’d go running for the hills. This is a shady business and not professional in the least bit.

Ok so here is the deal: My fiance and I got hired at this place in San Antonio TEXAS called KGB. So we get hired as just regular text agents, and we explain to them we need to work the exact same schedule because of the fact that we only have one car. So they hired us, and we had been working fine……
Then our boss goes up to my fiance, and hands him an application for a supervisor position. The boss said fill this out and you are guaranteed the job. He even went over the interview question with him. So… on the date he accepted the position with HUMAN RESOURCES, he told them if you need to change our schedules because it is a conflict of interst do it now so we can make arangements. So they said “no” that is not necessary you two will just have to act as if you are not together.
So he gets the job, and is doing his job well, when the manager starts hitting on me. He says to me “GOD GAVE YOU BEAUTY YOU NEED TO LEARN HOW TO USE IT IN THIS COMPANY” so ofcourse I tell my fiance, and he ignores it. Ever since I shot the manager down and told him I will always be faithful to my fiance, he has treated him like shit.
He always has the other manager pull him in the office and tell him he needs to step it up, and start doing his job. MIND YOU HE DOES HIS JOB. When Justin (my fiance) asked the manager ” what am I NOT doing the manager has not said he just says ” are you kidding me”…..
OK SO HERE IS WHY I AM REALLY BLOGGING THIS AND WANT TO HEAR OPINIONS….. on Saturday the boss comes in to the office on his day off and pulls justin into a meeting with a fellow manager… this manager and the other manager are best friends….. So larry THE ONE PICKING ON HIM starts calling him a “fucking idiot, and that he is stupid” he says you and Amanda take your breaks together :::WHICH HE SET IN THE SCHEDULE!!!!::: and says ” the other day i wanted to choke you for the way you act around here. ” he also said he never said we could have the same schedule. The guy was yelling a cussing at him….
SO HERE IS THE THING: everyone told him go to HR. Well HR and that manager are really good friends, and they go out and everything. Justin went to HR today and made a report.. well when he gets on the floor to work. everyone knows what was said… HR calls the other manager in and he lies… and says that everything justin says was a lie!!!!…
THEY SAID HE WAS GOING TO BE PUT ON CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR 4 WEEKS. …. justin has never even signed a verbal warning… i need to know what can be done about this…. A BOSS IS NOT ALOUD TO TALK TO SOMEONE LIKE THAT.. does anyone know the laws about this in TEXAS.. if he is fired which they are going to try to do .. what can be done!!!!

A: First of all, you and your fiance are not a “team” at work. You are individual contributors. Your personal relationship and life should be kept out of the workforce.

You have a harassment complaint with HR – file it individually (without the input of your fiance – after all, he was not a witness).

If your fiance has a complaint, then he can also take it individually with HR. Is a boss not allowed to talk to someone like that? Chances are he is allowed. Unless you really want to argue the boss physically threatened your fiance’s life … which is a stretch. Your fiance doees not need a signed verbal warning to be put on corrective action unless this is specifically against company and/or union policy.

Q: Proof of residence for San Antonio city college?
My husband and I just moved to San Antonio in July and purchased a home in august. I would like to start attending Palo Alto in the fall of this year but as I undrestand it you need to prove residence of one year with a Texas drivers license and car regestration. My husbands license was up for renewal when we arrived in july so he already has his Texas license. But unfortunatley I decided to wait and even if I register for my license now I still will not be able to attend in Sept. Does anyone know a way around this? Is there any other paper work the college system accepts that I can use to prove I’ve been here a year by sept?

well they sent the amount to the wrong bank…well that bank then sent us the check for the refund amount and now the used car dealership that we got the car from is now asking for a check from our back for that refund amount for they can just take that amount off the car…why cant i just keep the check? A: To make the contract legal the money has to go the right bank if it went to the wrong one it has to go to the right one. You keeping it is akin to stealing sorry mistakes happen.Its like trying to pay the electric bill and you send the water bill money as well just because the electric company refunded it to you does not mean you don’t still owe the water company. Also there is not a 3 day return policy in Texas.

I just bought a new home and need furniture. Should I purchase online (roomstogo.com, etc) or go in? Is there a respectible website I can go to? I keep going into stores and everyone is like a used car salesman. I just want quality stuff for a reasonable price. I live in San Antonio, Texas..does anyone live here who is reading this? A: go into the store if you can, you really want to see it in person if possible, not to mention touch it…sit on it…and so on. I can not imagine buying a sofa without it touching by backside first. If i ever do shopping in a place the has aggressive floor staff…just just give them the same i am just looking run around…then when i decide to purchase i find a sales person who has left me alone..lol..give them the commission

Rooms to go is not bad, neither is American signature, both reasonable. Sorry i don’t live in SA, but i love it there and have thought about moving there…lol.
