A: Avis, Budget, Enterprise, Hertz and National all offer monthly rentals. I’m not sure if you meant that “normal car rental companies are not good for long term rental”, meant that you thought they did not allow it, or that they were too expensive.
Currently, Avis and Hertz are offering an internet special for $100 off a monthly rental, and Budget and National are offering a special for $50 off a monthly rental.

A: I spent part of my life living in Houston and it is my second home.
I would not rent a cheap apartment in Houston because they are in unsafe areas. Trust me, cheap isn’t always good. The only area to me in Houston that is affordable/cheap to me that is relatively safe is Westchase and Memorial City area. Both are West of the Galleria and before Katy, TX. Westchase is located along Westheimer Rd/Beltway 8 freeway. Memorial City is located on Memorial Dr./ IH 10 West.
Live in the burbs because the rates are cheaper but are quality. I suggest Humble, TX, Atascocita, TX(both are N.E. burbs of Houston-www.humblearea.com) 20mins north of downtown Houston. Pearland, TX is SE houston.
Also, Katy, TX(West Houston), Friendswood TX and ClearLake, TX(S.E. burb of Houston next to NASA)
Living inside the “Loop” which is 610 is expensive but it depends what you are willing to pay for. But cheap is not always good. Stay away from Sharpstown areas(Chimney Rock Street, Fondren Rd, Bellfort St) crime areas SW side.
As far an affordable car, I would opt for CarMax.

To make a long story short, I need the front of my car painted. I badly scratched the bottom front of my Cadillac SRX, and it can’t be buffed out. I need a whole new paint job along the front. A: If you stay in a cheap motel, you will probably be in the slums. It won’t be safe. Pay an extra $50 – $80, stay downtown and be safe. Contact the Houston Chamber of Commerce for help in finding just the right place for your stay.
