Q: where is the big car sale by 610 in houston texas this weekend?
I saw an advertisement on tv in houston and they are having a big inventory sale for no credit bad credit etc. its over by reliant stadium anyone hear of it and know where it is or how I can find it?

A: its probably lawerance marshall

also i forgot to say: the 610 loop is CLOSED this weekend so i recommend not going to the sale..traffic is horrible

Q: Know of any good/relianble cars for sale in the houston(texas)area?
years 98 and newer.regular upkeep cost. and no chipped paint, busted tires, rust, leaking sunroofs, or foreign noises.contact amdg906@yahoo.com. thanks!

A: craigslist.com

Q: Anyone in the Southeast Texas area or in a car sales business knows of any dearlerships that will finance?
cars with no down payments. Any ideas on how or where to go to get the help needed to get a car with no down payment. Serious inquireis only. Anyone with any info that can help please respond. I have a friend who is looking for some info on getting a car without a down payment. If you know or heard of any programs, places, anything that will help her or any dealerships or anyone whom she can speak with at an dealership in the Southeast Texas area please respond to this. Thanks you all for responding your help and info is greatly appreciated.

A: You can go anywhere and get a car with no down payment. Obviously you will need to have decent credit to get no money down, or make sure you get a car with a rebate.

Just walk into the dealer, pick out a car, and tell them zero down.

Q: Bought a used truck from friend. CA plates but bought here in Texas. No title. What paperwork needed?
Friend from NY who lived in CA for a bit, then moved to Houston sold me her truck. It has CA plates but I don’t think it’s registered here. Additionally, she has no title. What paperwork do I need? State of Texas used car sale paperwork? CA paperwork? And what about title? What do I need to get the thing all legal, in my name … here in the state of Texas … with title?
I’m very comfortable the car is legit and wasn’t stolen.

A: Get your money back. If your “friend” doesn’t have the title, she does not own the truck, and can’t legally sell it to you.

Q: any used cars for sale?
I just got a job at a convenience story working part-time at minimum wage so I don’t have any money right now and I won’t have enough for several months. I’m wondering if anyone has a car for sale or knows of a good car store in the garland/dallas area in texas. I’m only interested in hearing about cars that I would be able to afford. Preferably no more than $1,000.

A: here you are

http://dallas.craigslist.org/search/car?query=&minAsk=500&maxAsk=1000&addTwo=

Q: Car for sale, Dallas/Ft Worth TEXAS?
I need to sell my car, do you know a good website where I can post it to sell?
I have already posted it on craiglist and backpage.
Do you know any other site good to sell?
I live in Arlington TX.

Thanks in advance
Thank in advance

A: thegreensheet.com but you would have to pay for the ad. Could also have it inserted into every edition that they offer in the DFW area. Pretty small fee. They say “Greensheet brings you buyers”. Try it and see.

Q: where can i sale parts of my car in houston, texas.?
i just got into an accident and i need some money to pay for the repairs to the other car…long story. so i decided that i would look into selling parts of my car, and if it were profitable, then i’d do that and just buy a new car later instead of fixing it. so is there anyone that can help me by telling me the best place i can go do this? thanks in advance!

A: You culd start taking it apart properlayan selling pieces either on ebay or craigslist.org. Why dont you just sell it as one and take a lower payment but less hassle. Then go by a used honda or toyota. Good Luck

Q: where do i go to find a good car for sale, price range $1,000-$3,000 in the dfw, texas?
i’m a courier for a living so i need a cheap car with good gass milage. sale prices from $1,000 to $3,000.

A: Auto trader.com is your best bet on the net, for selection and prices listed. good luck!

Q: can someone help?lemon law?
my brother in law bought a car in mexico(we live close to the border). he bought it from a man that has an american car license that supposedly they sale cars in texas but they found that the car was sold to them is not that safe.the motor is lower than the usual and the supports of the car are not good.he wants to know his rights with the lemon law, because when he bought the car he didnt kow anything about this, the guy is working for a tx. car lot that came out to be a junkyard and they buy the cars at auctions and repair them and sell them here in tx.but none of ths was told to him and he wants his money back and this guy wont give it to him.he wrote a letter saying that he was going to return the car and that he would give him the money back and the guy signed it but he didnt cuz the guy wrote something of his own on the paper ad he did not agree with it.can he press charges on the guy or what can he do.the lot is listed under car sales and when u call its a junkyard.

A: Let this be a good lesson to your brother-in-law! Next time, never buy a used car that says “sold as is” or with very limited warranty without checking out the car for yourself or with aid of a trusted mechanic. Always remember that sales people are usually out to sell and will attempt to sell anything they can for the commission!

Q: What is a “blue” title in the state of Texas?
Saw a car offered for sale and I know the titles in Texas on “normal” cars don’t have blue titles.

A: TX web page doesn’t say anything about it, but I would bet a quick call would get you an answer.

http://www.dot.state.tx.us/services/vehicle_titles_and_registration/county_tax_offices/default.htm

Go there, find your local office and give them a call.

Q: link to laws on used car sale, private sales?
I sold my car and now the buyer is tryign to scam me. I need to research waht his resposnibilites as a buyer in the state of Texas are, and what are mine as the seller. There was no contract. I am simply researching before I go to my attorney.

Thanks for any help.

A: you sold the car as is if he dont know wat to look for the smart thing he should have done was to take somebody that knows about cars to tell him to buy it or not dont let him waste your time if he didnt ask you any questions then its all on him

Q: dealer wont come pick up car been over 4 months. can i sale it to the junk yard?
Just moved to texas. my car broke doen. called the place where i got it. they won’t fix it because it is out of state. I told them to come get it. the said no. for me to bring it. told them i don’t want it. been over 3 months can i sale it to the junkyard.

A: If neither of you is bothered enough to do anything about it must be a right pile of crap. Forget about it & move on with your life.

Q: Texas Sales Tax on Car transfer?
I’m going through a very amiable split with my husband. We originally took out a car loan to purchase my car three years ago, but due to improper paperwork filing, it ended up being entirely in my husband’s name, even though I paid all the repayments.
We went down to the bank to get the car transferred to my name, and found I had to refinance – essentially, I had to pay off his balance with a new loan, and then the new loan would be in my name. That was fine. Now they’re slapping me with a State Sales Tax for “purchasing” the car from my husband!

Is this right? If so, is there any way to not pay the stupid sales tax, since it’s not a legitimate sale?

A: Any time a car is “purchased” the applicable amount of sales tax must be charged and collected. From what you described, you bought the car from your husband. The title changed from just his name to yours, and money changed hands. So as far as the law is concerned it was a sale. I am sorry, but that’s the correct answer. I am glad we live in Texas. In many other states they pay tax of food!

Q: Texas sales tax on car?
I bought a car from private owner for 12,000 US dollars. The sales tax here is 6.25%. Is there a way I can reduce my sales tax on this car?
Appreciate any info on this.

A: Only if the buyer is willing to give you a bill of sale for a lesser amount. Don’t go ridiculously low or they will not believe it.

Q: Where can I buy a Honda, Toyota, Nissan, or Volkswagen car with the steering wheel on the right side?
I live in Texas and I want to know where I can find cars for sale that have the steering wheel on the right side. Do I have to special order them from overseas, or is there a certain vendor I have to contact? Any help would be great!

A: Why would you want it there? That’s what’s killing me.

A: Start shopping the used car lots, of new car dealers..

Your first car shouldn’t be over 5000-6000.00

This would give you a 2003-05 car with close to, but less than 100,000 miles… Buy a standard 4 door sedan, that was traded in by an older man…(Buick, Oldsmobile, Camry, Accord, Taurus, Impala).
Stay away from cars kids drive.. Old men pamper their cars, kids abuse them…

You need a daily driver, not a hotrod…..

Q: where can i find a cheap car in houston texas from $1.000 to $2.000 dollars?
well am looking for a lincoln 1996 or a Cadillac……

By the way, I’m looking for something no more than $1,200, and also in the Houston, Texas area. Any help would be appreciated.

A: Hi
Hope this helps

Q: Where can i buy a cheap used car with low mileage in dallas texas?
Maybe a sunroof and more likely Black, White, Silver, Burgundy or Gray and it must have a Cd Player. =D

A:
Check here:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.com%2Fgp%2Fsite-directory%2F&tag=funjok-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325
You can find it.
Good luck!

Q: Where Can i Find A cheap old car in Texas?
Like $1-$100
Year ?-70

A: Any border town. San Antonio has some good buys but most the sellers allways have problems finding the titles to the vehicles.

Q: Is buying a car in texas cheaper than buying a car in connecticut?
I do not have a car. I am currently in connecticut. However I will be moving to texas in 4 months. Which is the better place to buy a car

A: The price is the same almost every where. Texas would be the better place to buy it only because it will save you the problems of getting it there from Conn.

Q: Reliable Cheap Used Cars Help!?
Hello everyone! Does anyone know of any good places or websites too look for reliable cheap used cars in Dallas Texas or close surrounding areas. I really need help!! im in My second semester of College and I REALLY need transportation more then anything. thanks for your help in advance!

A: Well, define “cheap”.

If you go to craigslist.com, you can search all of the local listings in there and narrow it down by price. If you decide to try an auction, make sure you have someone with you that knows what they’re doing. You can either find a gem there, or get seriously taken.

Good luck. Usually, “cheap” and “reliable” do not go hand-in-hand. One HUGE piece of advice is to make sure any vehicle you consider is checked out by a licensed mechanic. It might cost you $100 or so, but it is worth every penny. Never take anything a seller says at face value. “Good condition” to them might mean something totally different to someone else.

Q: I am want to begin buying and selling used cars in Texas. Do I need a Used Dealers License?
If so, how hard is it to obtain? Is insurance or a bond needed?

A: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlPESZ.rn8X6lIuhr.4AO7_ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080328150015AASFyBr

Q: Advice on how to start selling used cars in Houston Texas.?
I am new to this area and i have been thinking of starting a used car business.Even before i came here i had the idea in mine,i just don’t know the process i know i need a license but where do i get it.
And where are the used car dealer auctions held in this area i really need some one who is in the business and who share this information with me.
Any advice would be appreciated.

A: Business License comes from the city where your lot will be. You may be able to lease the lot, but, check the zoning! The city and other government agencies may have used cars to sell at incredibly good prices. See the links. Good Luck

Q: How do I obtain a Wholesale license in Texas to buy/sell used cars?
Actually what I have started to consider is buy cash cars here and sell them in Mexico. What do I need to do?

A: Contact the Business Licensing in Texas. From there, you’ll need to contact the Dealer’s Division for info regarding bonds and insurance, and dealer regulations. Just enter Tx/dealerlicensing, the page pops right up.

Q: how can i find owners who finance used cars in Texas close to Dallas?

A: I am in Dallas, you can take over my payments if you want…

Q: What Texas car dealership has the $4000 push pull or tow offer for used cars this weekend?

A: push, pull, or tow is just a come on. You would pay the same negotiating anytime. if your trying to dump a junker out of the yard then that is one thing…but if you think you are getting a “better deal” by giving them a worthless vehicle and getting a $4000 discount for it…well….they would give ya the discount with out the barely running 100.00 car thrown in the deal..lol

Q: I want t find dealers in Dallas, Texas that I can buy their used cars for them, I am a profesional buyer?
I have over 30 years of experience buying used cars, program, special finance, note cars, Highline, sports cars, suv, and trucks

A: there is a auction house over off of loop 12/408 near I-30
i cant remember the crossroad but you do have to have a dealers licence to attend.

Q: How can i start a used car dealer in texas?
I am interested in starting a used car dealer in a small town in texas. What all do i need to get going? Is it difficult to get a dealer license? What is the best place to get a loan to start a business? A local bank? Any answers will be greatly appreciated!

A: http://www.txdmv.gov/whatyouneed/forms/dealer2.htm

That’s where you get the forms needed to get your business started. It’s going to cost you for the land needed to establish your business, plus the $500 to get the first license you’ll need.

Good Luck

Q: how can i find owners who finance used cars in Texas close to Dallas?

A: I am in Dallas, you can take over my payments if you want…

Q: How do I obtain a Wholesale license in Texas to buy/sell used cars?
Actually what I have started to consider is buy cash cars here and sell them in Mexico. What do I need to do?

A: Contact the Business Licensing in Texas. From there, you’ll need to contact the Dealer’s Division for info regarding bonds and insurance, and dealer regulations. Just enter Tx/dealerlicensing, the page pops right up.

Q: sales tax on used car purchased in texas TX?
hi every one,

i am buying a car from a private owner. He still owes roughly $20,000 on the car from frost bank. So technically Frost bank has the title. Im buying the vehicle for $19,000. My brother said that i have to pay sales tax on the vehicle. I already know that i have to pay 6.25% sales tax when i transfer the title to my name when i got o the Department of Motor Vehicle. My question is do i also have to pay sales tax when i purchase the vehicle from Frost Bank. So in this case, im paying sales tax TWICE, one on tranfering the title and one on purchaseing the car.My brother said you have to pay tax since you are buying the car from the bank since the bank has the title. Is this true????? im not sure so im asking for answers. this can add alot of money to buying the car when you are charged sales tax twice. thanks for any anwers

A: No, you only pay the tax once when you go to transfer ownership.

AND, don’t pull the ol’ “I only paid $100 for it” trick to shorten the bill. Texas will charge you tax on book value.

Q: I am buying a used car from an individual in tx. B of A is financing for me they say 12% sales tax. yes? or no
to write a little more…we are purchasing a car from an individual in texas we are using bank of america finance to finance the car for us. They first said 6.25% sales tax. Now she says the formula is asking for 12% sales tax because we are buying from an individual. Is the acurate?

A: Are you asking about sales tax or interest rates? Private sellers do not collect sales tax. If you’re asking about interest rates, depending on the year of the car, 12% may be high, but it can also be ok. If the car is a 2000 model, then your rate will be higher than say a 2007 model.

Taxes should not change because the vehicle is used. If you need more help, you can email me. Good luck!

Q: False claim: Breach of contract on automobile sale. They reposessed car in middle of night from garage.?
My parents bought a new SUV in the Dallas, Tx area about a month ago. Last week it was stolen out of the garage in the middle of the night. The police were called and it was reported as a stolen vehicle. A couple of days ago my mother called to make her first payment (not due for another 2 weeks) and found that the finance company that the dealership used had no record of her. They said that the dealership may have just been slow in sending the paperwork off to call them and see if the paperwork was in the mail. When she called the employee that took her call said that he was under orders from his boss to not talk to her and that her vehicle was not stolen that it had been repossesed for breach of contract. He would give no further info. She asked to speak to the woman who filed her financing at the dealership, and was told she no longer worked there. Mom called the police and they talked to the dealership and found out that they claimed that she was in breach of contract because she used her name and credit to purchase a vehicle for someone else. The vehicle has only been used by my parents, and fully licensed and insured in their names. The accusation is unbelievable!!! The police also told her that even if they had grounds to repo, they were still tresspassing by going in the garage. She does not have the money to hire a lawyer and does not know what actions to take. Oh, and to make matters worse, her old car that had been parked next to the new has a dent in it with the same color paint as the new one (guessing in their quick thieving in the middle of the night they damaged it). The name of the dealership is Southwest Hyudai in Dallas, Tx. Does anyone have any advice?? Know any pro bono’s in Texas (they live near Dallas in Mansfield)?? Ever heard anyone having something like this happen before? Complaints against this dealership??? Thanks for any help!

A: You need to go to your local DMV office with all supporting documents. Contracts, sales orders, etc. You need photos of the damaged car as well

File a formal complaint with the DMV. There will be a few forms to fill out, but it is worht the time. The DMV will inspect this for you, and enforce any rules that have been violated.

As a dealer, I can tell you with 100% certainty that dealers are FAR more afraid of, and responsive to, a DMV complaint than a lawsuit. DMV has the ability to levy fines, restrict your license, audit every single deal, and even shut a dealer down if there are violations.

There is no charge to file a complaint. But I stress you MUST go in person to the DMV. Also, make sure you go to the main office. Most satellite offices do not have a professional licensing division officer on staff. So go to the main DMV office

Good luck

BTW Earl – its not slander if someone is presenting facts known first-hand. Slander has to be a malicious, false rumor.

Q: Craigslist/ebay scam?
Okay so I was looking at this insanely well priced car on craigslist but I am afraid that it is a scam…
I don’t really trust this whole delivery bit and everything that she’s talking about but she did provide the vin# soooo… what do I do? Here is the email:

Hello there,

I’m writing you regarding my Honda Pilot. The car is still for sale. My asking price for the car is $3400. The car is currently located in Pearland, TX. It is a 2003 model loaded with everything. Currently the car has 59,951 miles, the VIN# is XXXXXXXXXXXX. The car is very well maintained, it has just been completely serviced. The engine runs very good and the automatic transmission shifts perfectly. I’m selling the car because I don’t have time to enjoy it due to my job (I work as a casino dealer on a cruise ship) plus that I have some financial problems and I need money very soon. I have to tell you that I’m currently at work and I left the car in Texas at the shipping company, it’s already packed and waiting to be shipped anywhere. If you decide to purchase it, you will receive all the documents of the car (owner’s manuals, keys, clear title, bill of sale) in order to register it under your name. Regarding the payment, I will use only eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection program. If you are interested, this is how eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection program works:

1. You send me your full name, complete address (I need it for shipping) and your phone number.
2. I open a transaction with eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection.
3. eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection will contact you with an invoice regarding our transaction.
4 You will send the payment to eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection and they will notify me to ship the vehicle to your location.
5. After you will inspect/drive the vehicle and decide to keep it, eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection will forward me the funds and the deal is done.

Basically, eBay Vehicle Purchase Protection will secure the funds until you will receive and inspect the car. You will have 5 days inspection period. If the vehicle is not like described, you will have to ship it back on my expense and they will give you a full refund. This way, you will be able to inspect the vehicle before committing to buy it and I know that you have the money and you aren’t just fooling around. I will wait your reply.

————————————————————————————————
I know this sounds like a bunch of other scams but she DID give a correct VIN# (I checked on carfax but didnt order the report) and attached and album of 70 pictures of the car…

HELLLPPP!
Well fine. Thank you nice people for giving your opinion. But mean people(Stewie & xxsatanic guy) you don’t have to call me stupid for asking a question!!! It’s a hard deal to pass up and I just wanted to make sure first. Thank you.

A: Here is something else you need to pay attention to. These scammers are a team. They have constructed an elaborate website that looks and feels like an Ebay site, but it isn’t. Pay attention to the fine detail of the URL, it is real similar, but not the same as the real thing. They require a deposit of half the sale price. Once you send it (Western Union, not paypal – red flag!!!) they are gone and you will not be able to recover.

Here is one of their URL’s
cgi-ebay-com-sundowner-3horse-trailer.phpnet.us/2004 Sundowner Sierra 3 Horse Trailer 10 ft LQ

Ebay does not use cgi or dashes

Hope I have saved someone

Q: Is there a limit to the number of car titles you can transfer from your name in one year in TX?
I have a friend who is the sales manager at a local car dealership. He has been allowing me to buy some of his trade ins at cost, and then I resell them on the open market. As I don’t have a dealers license I have to pay taxes and register the car in my name. A new title is also issued for the car under my name. A buddy told me that there is a limit to the number of title transfers you can do in one year. I have searched but can’t find any info on this subject, does anyone know? I have already done three cars this year under my name. I’m located in Texas. I really don’t want to have to pay fines for too many title transfers or have the new owner of a car encounter a fine.

A: In FL the limit is 4. I imagine TX must have a similar rule

Q: Texas – Vehicle tax question?
I have heard numerous times that in TX, you can no longer tell them the price you payed for the car or use a bill of sale to indicate the tax price. That they rather go by the blue book value to figure the taxes.

A guy had recently said that he was also told this, went in to the DMV with a bill of sale and was taxed for the BOS price.

A: If you bought your car from a TX registered car dealer, they’ll use the BOS price.

If you bought from an out-of-state dealer or a private party, they’ll charge sales tax based upon the higher of the book value or the BOS price.

Actually, it’s not the Blue Book value but what TX calls the “Standard Presumptive Value”. It is based upon book value, adjusted for mileage. However, if your BOS lists a higher price than the SPV, you will pay tax based upon the BOS price.

Here’s a link that explains it, along with a handy estimator: http://www.dot.state.tx.us/services/vehicle_titles_and_registration/std_presumptive_value.htm

Q: Does this car fall under the lemon law? What are my rights?
I live in Abilene TX, and about four months ago I purchased a 1999 Ford Taurus from Abilene Used Car Sales , the car was sold “AS IS” but did include a limited 30-day warranty by the second week the car was having major transmission problems, i took it back and the manager drove it and said that he didn’t see anything wrong with it. So I just left it alone , just last week the cars transmission stalled and the car overheated I pulled over over immediately called the car lot and they towed it in for repairs , so they ended up fixing the a/c , transmission & a corroded freeze plug, i payed 125$ down on the repair fees and agreed to pay the rest out. Within twenty minutes of me driving it the temp gauge went all the way up and the engine started knocking i pulled over and called the car lot and they sent a tow truck to come and get it and when i asked what to do about a ride home they said ” sorry i can only send a tow truck” so i had to walk 3 miles to get home in the Texas heat, anyhow i also noticed that on the underside of the engine there is a ton of rust? what could this be? Last time they had the car in to fix they had it for a week and now who knows how long they will have it again so none the less i am stranded and afoot and it really sucks i don’t know what to do this car has repeatedly made me late for work and left me stuck on the side of the road in this terrible heat wave i am not sure what to do at this point

Any advice or comments greatly appreciated Thanks!

A: Your rights ? You bought a car as-is.

You’re an owner.

Ive never heard of as is and a warranty. Cant be both, Its one or the other.

Q: Am I stuck with this P.O.S. or it the seller liable for the damage?
I live in Abilene TX, and about four months ago I purchased a 1999 Ford Taurus from Abilene Used Car Sales , the car did include a limited 30-day warranty by the second week the car was having major transmission problems, i took it back and the manager drove it and said that he didn’t see anything wrong with it.
And as for Scott H and alfredb1979, I paid for the repairs out of my pocket and when i picked up the car within twenty minutes it broke down so whatever your opinion is , mine is that if i pay for something they had better get it right, no matter i spoke with a lawyer to day and she is going to force the lot to pay for the damage caused buy bad repairs

A: Is the title for this car clean? This car sounds like a Katrina Flood victim. I’m just speculating but if there is that much rust around the engine this car had to be submerged. I’d be asking some questions about the title to see it has a salvage title or a repaired title (use to be salvage but is now showing clean).

I think you got screwed and if this is the case you can sue.

Q: AM I SCREWD on this or can i get out of it?
I live in Abilene TX, and about four months ago I purchased a 1999 Ford Taurus from Abilene Used Car Sales , the car did include a limited 30-day warranty by the second week the car was having major transmission problems, i took it back and the manager drove it and said that he didn’t see anything wrong with it.
A: See if your state has a lemon law – I would also contact a lawyer about what you can do.

Q: My car was gifted to me & the title signed over in my name, do I have to register before I sell it?
My car was bought by my brother in 2004 from carmax with a loan. This happened in Houston, TX. The loan is now paid off and on the title it says carmax was the previous owner and my brother is the current owner. My brother gifted me the car and on the title (which is from Texas), he filled in my name on the back and handwrote a receipt saying I purchased it for $500. The date of sale to me on the title is June 1 2009.
However, I have since moved to NY but have not yet registered the car. I think their are some penalties involved. My question is, do I have to register the car in my name before I can sell it or trade it in, or can I trade it in without registering it? The reason I ask is that my name is already filled in at the back of the title, and the title is from a different state. Please advise. Thanks

A: We get this question a lot. You MUST register the car in your name before you can sell or trade it in. Until you register it in your name it really does not belong to you so you can not legally sell it. It’s not your property, therefore you can not give a buyer a CLEAR title.

Although your brother signed the car over to you he is still the registered owner of record on the Texas DMV records because you haven’t completed the transfer by registering it in your name. The simple reason is that each time a car is sold the state wants some money, and you’ll have to pay sales tax on the $500.

Q: URGENT! Anything I should know before I sell my car?
I live in Harris Co., TX and I’m selling my car to an individual tomorrow.

I am taking $1000 down and they purchaser is going to pay me 15 weekly payments of $100 to cover the remaining $1500 of my asking price. (2500 total).

I downloaded a bill of sale and added a section about the installments so it’s worded as followed:

I, [my name] (hereby referred to as “seller”) of Harris County, Texas for and in consideration of $2500.00 and other considerations to me and in hand paid by [Buyer's name] (hereby referred to as “purchaser”) the receipt for which is hereby acknowledged, have bargained, sold and delivered, and by these presents do sell and delivery unto the said [his name] in the County of Harris County, Texas the following vehicle:

[YEAR MAKE BODY STYLE IDENTIFICATION # LIC. #]

The purchaser has paid down $1000.00 and will make fifteen (15) weekly payments of $100 with the first being paid on July 10, 2009 and the final being paid on or before October 16, 2009.

Should the purchaser default on this agreement by missing any of said payments, the seller retains all right and permission to repossess the vehicle and the purchaser will willingly release the vehicle to the seller in this event.

I will also be getting copies of licenses, ss cards, insurance and a utility bill.

Am I covered in all legal aspects in the event that they don’t keep their end of the deal?
I added this to the line just below the car make and model info:
“The automobile has been sold in “as-is” condition and in no regard is a warranty offered or implied. The purchaser has had opportunity to examine the automobile thoroughly and accepts it in its current condition.”
They are getting insurance on it tomorrow morning and bringing me a copy of it. If it’s wrecked they still have to pay the balance. I’ll be sure to write that in.
:
The purchaser will carry Texas Liability Insurance AT MINIMUM and will pay the agreed balance in full regardless of the condition of the vehicle (i.e., accident, mechanical repair, etc).
I checked Texas law…as long as a bill of sale has been signed by both parties, I’m no longer responsible for the actions of the person driving the vehicle.
They do not get the title until it’s paid in full.
I’m going to have them register the car in their name. It’s the same as when a bank has a lien. You still don’t have the title, you’re making payments to them but you register the car in your name.

A: Looks good to me BUT, I’m not a lawyer. CYA CYA CYA. If you can have a real pro look at it. your doing the right thing putting everything in writing.

Q: Can I get everyone’s opinion?
I’m looking for a car for work. My credit is less than perfect and I don’t have much of a history yet anyway (i’m only 20). The big dealers here in San Antonio, TX (CarMax, Ancira, Freedom Chevrolet) won’t finance me through an outside bank. I applied and got a response saying I have insuficcient credit history and to few open accounts.

Anyway, there is a place called Max Auto Sales that will help me get a car (a new car). They are a “Buy here, Pay here” dealer. They have been around since 1976 and have a perfect record with the BBB and the State of Texas. Their customer satisfaction has always been rated highly. Anyway, they’re offering me a 2008 Dodge Caliber with 23,000 miles on it at 310 a month for 48 months at 11% interest. The car was checked with Carfax and comes out clean.

My brother has a car from them and he’s happy with it. He’s had it for 2 years now. No problems.

Should I go for it?
The Caliber isn’t a plain stripped down model.

A: It sounds as if you are going in with your eyes open. You have done your research and seem to be comfortable with the company you propose to do business with. The concern for me is that you mention a payment and interest rate…not the price of the car. Though 11% seems a little high to me, it may be the only financing option you have available. That is understandable, but the “deal” they are offering you does not seem to give you any room to negotiate on the price of the car which would be typical in almost any purchase situation with a dealer. Is the car worth the $11,999 asking price? Before you jump in feet first consider that you will be paying almost 15k over the next four years, and that the chance of having significant equity remaining in the vehicle is probably not too good. If you do decide that it is what you have to do, good luck and enjoy.

A: No, but hard to prove they damaged it, they will try to get out of it, id take them to court if they didnt fix or give you refund.

Q: Car for sale, Dallas/Ft Worth TEXAS?
I need to sell my car, do you know a good website where I can post it to sell?
I have already posted it on craiglist and backpage.
Do you know any other site good to sell?
I live in Arlington TX.

Thanks in advance
Thank in advance

A: thegreensheet.com but you would have to pay for the ad. Could also have it inserted into every edition that they offer in the DFW area. Pretty small fee. They say “Greensheet brings you buyers”. Try it and see.

A: Auto trader.com is your best bet on the net, for selection and prices listed. good luck!

Q: Getting a title for a car in Texas?
I have a ‘56 Beetle that I bought about a year ago with no title, just a bill of sale. The last owner died nearly 40 years so there was no title. I currently live in Illinois but was a past Texas resident. Would it be possible to write up a bill of sale, selling the car to my sister who lives in Texas, and then buy it back from her without ever taking the car back to Texas? Here in illinois a bonded title doesnt mean shit without signatures from the guy I bought it from who is MIA, or I have to pay 1.5x the value of the car to get a bonded title.

A: Sounds like a lot of trouble to go through. It all amounts to the same thing. You have NO title for a 56 Beetle you purchased. The prior owner died 40 Years ago? Amazing! Who sold you the Car?
I know your torn. You want this car,BAD. But the only legal way is the Prior owner signature requesting a duplicate title from the State Of Texas. You will also need the dead prior owners drivers license. Sounds like your in a BIG pickle. How you going to do this? If you send for a duplicate,It would have to be mailed to the prior owners last known address. So, again: who sold you the car? Your right, the Bonding would cost you Way too much but just how bad do you want this car? It may be worth the effort and fee to get the Bonding Insurance policy. Call your Insurance broker. It may be cheaper then you think. Good Luck

Q: Buying a car in Texas from an individual who has a lien on the title?
Im going to Texas to buy a car and the current owner has a loan for it from a bank. so theres no title yet. my question is if i write up a bill of sale and everything and give the guy a cashiers check made out to his lien holder then take the car is this ok?

A: No, you need to contact his lien holder. If you plan on paying the balance of his loan, it’s best to go through them.

Maybe the two of you should go to the local office of the lien holder and finalize the papers there. That way you KNOW the title will come back in YOUR name.

Never trust an individual with a lien. All kinds of fraud could occur there.

Q: I was wondering where I would go to turn someone in for false statment on a Bill of Sale?
I bought a car from this guy in Texas. On the Bill of Sale the guy put down that I traded in a vehicle which I didnt. He had written down the VIN number and all the information for the vehicle that I suppossedly traded in. I had paid 6890 for the car. The bill of Sale said I paid $6999 and he wrote I traded in for $6599. So I would only have to pay taxes on the difference. I told him I didnt want him to do that but he insisted so when I went to pay the sales tax I ended having to pay tax on the $6999. He also had false statements on the add and everything else this car has been nothing but trouble. I would like to turn him in he doesnt need to be selling anymore vehicles. No one else needs to get ripped off. So what are the Laws against doing what he did and where can I go to report him?

A: I believe you would be just as guilty of any wrong doing a he is. You both signed the same piece of paper, claiming it was the truth. Are you sure this isn’t because you are mad that you make a poor vehicle choice, and now you are blaming him and want him to pay for you’re decision?

And I fully agree with the guy above me. There is something very fishy about that. He now has on record that he got some strange car from you. It makes no sense, somewhere, there is somebody who never signed over the ownership of this car.

Q: Trying to send my cars from texas to puerto rico need to see how much a ferry would cost to transport them?
moving to puerto rico in october and needing to take my cars with but dont know how much it would cost or where to start looking for my cars to be transported from texas to puerto rico….HELP

A: there is no ferry that will transport them. You need to contact a moving company and they will ship it on a cargo ship. Its very expensive to ship cars to PR because there is an excise tax. The car will cost anywhere from $700-1100 to ship and then the excise tax starts at $750 and goes up depending on the vehicles value in PR ($5500 or less vehicle will be $750, but remember cars in Pr have higher value) . I shipped a 2001 suv from Philadelphia to PR last year. I paid about $2000 total. I used La rosa del monte, but any mover would work. Call the shipping company for a quote & then call Hacienda in PR to find out the tax.

(787) 721-2020 or (787) 774-1474

Q: Anyone hear of a car trade in credit from the state of Texas for old cars?
Anyone hear of a credit from the Texas state government for trading in a car older than 1997 for a newer car? I used to hear something advertised but have not heard anything lately. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

A: It is not in all counties of texas just the areas around Houston, DFW, and Austin. If your car is older than ten years, does not pass inspection, and you are poor, then you qualify. Below is the website with details.

Q: What sports cars are not street legal in Texas?
I want either an Aston Martin or a Lamborghini Gallardo but my husband said they aren’t “Street Legal” in Texas. If that is true, why not and what bad a$$ cars are legal? I can’t find anything online about them.

Thanks!!!
LoL, no – he wants the Gallardo too! He said we should move to Cali so we could actually drive them!

A: maybe they are to expensive for him

Q: Does Texas have a three day return period for new cars?
I just closed today on a new car, but I signed for 72 mo when I told them I wanted it fro 60… some states give you three days to return the car.. is Texas one of them? And if so where do I get that information.

A: My cousin used to work as a salesman at dealership in Texas. He always used to tell us that we can return a new car within 30 days. (Texas law.) it could have changed by now, I would go to a different dealership and find out the current laws for returning a car. I’m sure the competition will be glad to enlighten you on the current laws.

Q: Relocating two cars from Texas to Anchorage; what do I do to winterize them?
On one of them I already changed the antifreeze to about 30/70 (about -40 F capable?) ratio. The other 07 honda accord has the antifreeze that came with the car. What is the typical ratio?

A: Try visiting an auto repair center in Texas. http://www.autorepairshoplocator.com/Texas-Auto-Repair.html They can help you with your questions. Try calling multiple repair centers and compare what they say.

Q: Where are some places I can rent classic cars from in Houston, Texas?
My dad’s birthday is coming up in a few weeks and he really likes classic cars. We don’t have enough money to buy him one, but I thought it would be a good idea to rent him one for a week or so. He really likes the 68 Impala convertible, or a 68 Caprice coupe. Does anyone have any ideas where I can find a place to rent either of these in Houston, Texas? Please help, it’s really important!!

A: Don’t really think of those as classics. In Dallas, there is a movie prop rental company that warehouses some cars from the 60’s.

Q: Are cars in hot climates like Texas less likely to have sludge build up in the engine?
I have always thought that reason dictates that cars that are not subjected to freezing temps have less sludge. Is that true. and..are synthetics the best to use so that I never have a problem with this…I live in Texas. goes into freezing like…3-4 days a year where I live.

A: use castrol gtx. synthetics are best but once you go synthetic you can never go to a blend or conventional. i’ve seen oil turn into paste, probably started as good clean oil, then went to sludge, but literally paste. and it doesn’t get that cold here.

Q: What are the details of Texas’ $3000 car trade in program for cars 1996 or older ?
I saw online , and read at the below link that Texas will soon be offering $3000 to trade in a car aged 1996 or older in trade for a 2006 or older. Any news on an official site ?

http://www.txcn.com/sharedcontent/dws/txcn/austin/stories/080907kvueoldcars2-cb.1ab9e99f.html

A: http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/implementation/air/mobilesource/vim/driveclean.html

This is an expansion of the existing AirCheckTexas Repair and Replacement Assistance Program — LIRAP:

http://www.tceq.state.tx.us/implementation/air/mobilesource/vim/lirap.html

Info will be finalized around December. The plan is for individuals living in certain counties (in the Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Houston-Galveston-Brazoria areas) that meet certain low income requirements, that they can apply for vehicle replacement assistance. Their previous vehicle has to have been registered for at least the last 12 months in the participating county, and either have just failed an emission test, or is a vehicle 10 years or older and gasoline powered that had passed a safety/emissions inspection in the last 15 months. If you meet the requirements, you would qualify for vehicle-replacement assistance of:
* $3,000 for a car, current model year or up to three model years old
* $3,000 for a truck, current model year or up to two model years old
* $3,500 for hybrid vehicle, current or previous model year

Q: this texas cars for kids thing has anyone actually got a car from this company. or donation and what are the r
equirements in order to get a car?

A: I’m here in Texas too and I’ve never heard of anybody getting a car from these people. I believe the charity takes vehicle donations to sell at an auction to rase money and then let people claim a certin amount on their taxes. I don’t think they actually sell the car to the public because they would have to have a dealers license.

Q: What color lights are legal on cars in texas?
is it okay to have blue lights showing from corner lights in texas?
i have a 1996 toyota avalon so other toyo owners know what im talking about

i have blue tinted corners

and i need to know if its legal
i havent seen anything against it
but
red is a no no
idk about blue

PLS HELP

A: It is illegal, any aftermarket lighting, whether it be the color, etc that is not from the manufacturer is illegal, you may not get hassled by the cops for it but it’s illegal nonetheless

Q: Where can I test drive Muscle Cars in Texas?
I wanna test drive an original 1970 Boss 302 Mustang or a Fastback Clone in Texas. Does anyone know what I can do about this?

A: Find a lot that has one for sale that is willing to let you test drive it.

Q: I am want to begin buying and selling used cars in Texas. Do I need a Used Dealers License?
If so, how hard is it to obtain? Is insurance or a bond needed?

A: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AlPESZ.rn8X6lIuhr.4AO7_ty6IX;_ylv=3?qid=20080328150015AASFyBr

Q: Are the police detector in cars illegal in Texas?
The ones that mount up on your windshield and tell you if a cop is shooting radar etc? Can you have those in Texas? Because I just bought one and it already saved my ass but IF I got pulled over and a cop takes up my 150$ radar I sure am gonna be pissed.

A: Radar detectors are not illegal in Texas.

You were lucky the officer apparently took his Radar off “standy” mode.

Must’ve been a rookie. I catch more people with detectors and when they ask for a warning…I point to their detector and let them know…that WAS their warning! What it didn’t work????

Q: Does anyone know anything about the Diminished Value Laws in Texas on cars?

A: There are actually alot of mis-conceptions about this. First of all, any time an item is damaged and repaired, then you will have lost value.

In Texas it is the law that you can recover this loss on an auto if you are the victim of the accident.

An average accident on a regular car (ford, chevy, toyota) will cause an average loss of about $3800. They key is the method of determining the lost value.

If you select a reputable, court approved company to help you determine your Diminished Value, you will be able to collect this.

A Texas based company, Texas Auto Services, is the leader in this field. Visit their website and you will get ALOT of info.
texasautoservices.com

Good Luck!

Q: What is the maximum speed limit for passenger cars on Texas rural Interstates?

A: The maximum daytime speed limit on most interstate and state highways in Texas is 70 miles per hour. At night, the maximum speed limit is 65 miles per hour. In some areas, the speed limit is higher because of fewer people traveling on certain roads.

Q: car registration, new in town?
hi,will be moving to carrollton tx from CA, my car registration expires december and moving to tx january.I was told that if i register in frisco or another area it will be cheaper. Would you know how much i would spend overall in registering my car and changing my CA drivers licence to TX? every penny counts right now so it will be a good help if someone can give me tips on how to go about this on the cheaper route…thanks!

A: If you are moving to Carrollton, you wont be able to register in Frisco. The registration is done on the county level, so depending on where you are moving in Carrollton, you could be in Denton, Dallas, or Collin County. You should be able to find the costs at TxDot

A: try the phone book. Thats what its for. You could call information also.

Q: Jena 6 defendent racially targeted AGAIN!!!!?
HOUSTON – A defendant in the racially-charged Jena 6 case in Louisiana has been arrested for assault after an altercation at the suburban Dallas high school he is now attending, potentially complicating his legal defense in Jena and dispiriting some of his supporters.Bryant Purvis, 19, was arrested Wednesday in Carrollton, Texas, and charged with misdemeanor assault after an incident with another student at Hebron High School, Carrollton police said. Purvis was released in lieu of $1,000 bond on Thursday and suspended for three days from the school, where he enrolled as a senior after moving to the area to live with a relative.Purvis’ attorney, Darrell Hickman, characterized the assault as a “minor shoving incident” and said it involved a student whom Purvis believed had vandalized his car a few days before. A police affidavit accompanying an arrest warrant alleged that Purvis choked the student and pushed his head into a bench, injuring the victim’s eye.
The new arrest could complicate ongoing plea bargain negotiations over the Jena case with LaSalle Parish District Attorney Reed Walters, Hickman said. Purvis is one of six black defendants Walters initially charged with attempted murder for beating a white student at Jena High School in December 2006, in a fight that capped months of racial tensions in the town. The charges were reduced to aggravated second-degree battery after the Jena case drew criticism from national civil rights leaders, who contended that the justice system in the small town was biased against blacks. More than 20,000 demonstrators marched through Jena last September in support of the Jena 6 defendants and their case was one of several last year that launched what activists regarded as a new civil rights movement. The first Jena defendant to face trial, Mychal Bell, pleaded guilty in December to a juvenile charge of second-degree battery and received a sentence of 18 months in juvenile detention. Purvis’ cas
is set for trial in late March. The Texas arrest “doesn’t help his case in Jena, that’s obvious,” Hickman said. “From what [Purvis] told me, I can understand him losing his temper. We all lose our temper every now and then. But we’re in the process of negotiations with Reed Walters. And what we’ve been asking for, probably Reed will be less inclined to give it to me now.”Purvis’ arrest is the latest in a series public embarrassments for the Jena defendants, who last summer attracted the sympathies of more than 300,000 petition signers and donations of more than $500,000 to their legal defense fund.
Purvis and another Jena defendant, Carwin Jones, posed like rap stars at the Black Entertainment Television Hip Hop Awards in October, where they presented a music award and received an ovation from the audience. Jena defendant Robert Bailey Jr. posted pictures of himself on a Myspace page with a wad of $100 bills stuffed in his mouth. And questions arose over the accounting for some of the donated legal funds controlled by the Jena 6 families after they declined to say how they were spending the money. Nevertheless, the Jena case remains important, said Mervyn Marcano, spokesman for Color of Change, an Internet-based civil rights group of nearly 400,000 members that raised more than $200,000 for the Jena defendants.
“It’s sort of a pop culture touchstone of 2007 for a lot of black people,” Marcano said, adding that he hoped that Purvis’ latest arrest would not detract from the larger issues of equal justice raised by the Jena case.”These kids are still juveniles, so I’m not surprised that they will get into scuffles and things of that nature,” Marcano said. “These kids are not supposed to be angels. They are supposed to have equal access to fair treatment from the criminal justice system, and they will continue to be teenagers while we continue to fight for that.”
Where is Sharpton when we need him?
The entire state of Texas must be racially biased =) He better move to another and try it there.

A: I think the “Jena 6″ nonsense is a bunch of crap. If you attack someone, you should go to jail, black, white, or otherwise.

Q: Need to find numbers a cars for cash in Carrollton, texas?
I have a car that i want to sell to like a auto salvage car thing or junk yard but i want to get cash in return can you help me find numbers to call to sell my car today it still runs just has problem i dont want to bother fixing so if you can help me?

A: try the phone book. Thats what its for. You could call information also.

Q: Where 2 buy 2nd hand car within Carrollton?
Car in good running condition that is located within the are of Carrollton and Plano

A: really to be honest your best bet would be to buy a car from a private seller, and have a good mechanic whom ever it might be check it out. try autotrader.com you can see lots of cars online that way, if you do go to a dealership for a used car they may give you the run around plus a high price. also try police auctions my boyfriend bought a practically new car with only 26000 miles for 3000 dollars but you have to get a dealers license from the DMV or know someone who has one and can go for you. good luck

Q: What is the best route to get from carrollton tx to bransion mo.?
what is the best route by car to get to bransion Mo.

A: go to Mapquest.com ,”driving directions”

   and it’s spelled Branson

Q: How do I request that a speed bump be put on our street?
People drive way too fast in my neighborhood (I live in Carrollton, GA). I’m afraid that one of the kids on my street is going to be killed by the fast cars. The speed limit is 25–most cars driving on my street go at least 50. Who do I need to contact to get a speed bump placed on our street?

A: Many cities have a neighborhood planning division where you can get things like this addressed. For your city, you can find info here:

http://www.carrollton-ga.gov/departments/community_development/index.html

A quicker, yet short term solution would be to ask the police department to patrol your street more frequently.

Finally, I would advise against speed bumps, and instead ask for things like traffic circles, diversion barriers, etc. Speed bumps cause all sorts of problems for many different types of vehicles, and can cause a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed to lose control, potentially being a bigger threat than just a speeding vehicle.

Q: Why is the oil light in my 1989 Honda Accord on?
Yesterday morning the oil light came on in my car, but I had the oil changed a couple of weeks ago (literally almost two). I took it in to Kwik Kar and they said there was no oil leak and the oil level was fine and simply just told me to stop driving it (which I honestly cannot do with my schedule right now).

What could possibly be wrong with it? Where should I take it in the Carrollton/Plano, TX area?

A: It could be a couple of things. Lots of cars have automatic oil light that comes on after so many miles. maybe when you had the oil changed, they forgot to reset it. Thats most likely what happened. (same thing just happened in my camaro). but it could be low on oil, I would check the oil yourself, or take it to another place to have it checked out. when it comes to garages, a second opinion is always best

Q: New job in New Carrollton, MD?
I’ll be relocating to the New Carrollton, MD area in September. As I’m from Philly, PA, I know nothing of the area. Can anyone provide me with some information about: recommendations of best areas to live in (lowest crime rates, suburban-like areas, etc) and/or apartment complexes, average cost for car insurance/gas prices, if there are any city wage taxes in addition to state income tax, etc. I’m looking to stay within a 30 minute drive of New Carrollton. Any information would be great!

Also, if there are any Philly area people that moved to that area, I would certainly love to hear from you about what you’ve found!

Thank you in advance!

A: I use to live in Riverdale and Greenbelt which are less than 15 minutes from New Carrollton, MD. Like NC, they are suburban like area, the crime rates between each areas are comparable. However New Carrollton is busiest of the three. All are near a metro station, take a bus in Riverdale to NC metro station or one exit north of NC exit to Greenbelt Metro Station. There is also a metro station near Prince George Plaza in Hyattsville, MD

Rent in NCarrollton is high for garden apartments $800-$1000. However, there are small apartment units that are less, not fancy, but decent.

While I was a student at University of Maryland, I avoided apartments around campus and off University Blvd. Because people moved in and out so often, and parking was a problem.

I lived in Riverdale Towers Apt, off Riverdale Road. It is a garden high rise apartment that has six floors. The location was great for me 15 min from school, 10 min from work. I was able to take the bus to the subway station. Neighboring Riverdale Towers are Park Tanglewood, Oak Ridge, and Riverdale Village Apts. Parking is limited.

Crescent Square Apt on Crescent Road in Greenbelt, MD is one of the few inexpensive apartment complex. However they’re not fancy. It’s across the street from a gym, a post office, a credit union, a bank, a co-op, and auto mechanic, a gas station and in walking distance from a library. Police and the fire department are always in the area because the office is at the end of the the main road. I hated most the noise of the emergency vehicles and the buses during the weekday. Otherwise it was very peaceful. I lived in the section on Crescent Road, there are other buildings two blocks down that have balcony and patios. However managed by the same company.

I can go on about other apartments in the area. Check this website out for others opinion of the places I’ve mention or that others advise. http://www.apartmentratings.com/

I grew up in PG County. Areas that are closes to DC line seem to have higher rate of crime than those outside the beltway. If you can live in Philly, you can live in Prince George’s County MD.

There are federal and state taxes, no city wage taxes. The county gets you with tax on food, clothing, and other merchandise, as well as car and property.

Q: If you found a phone on the train would you turn it in or keep it? I need my numbers?
I dropped a Cingular silver Pantech C120 on the train on Thursday (Orange line to new carrollton). I was sitting on the last car. when I got of at stadium armory to transfer to the blue line and it was then when the doors were closing. that I realized that I didn’t have my phone. it fell out of my coat pocket on the seat.

( i did have a split second decision to get my phone, but to leave my stuff sitting on the platform. and my purse was in my bag. ) I chose to stay with my stuff and report it when I got to the end of the line. I cancelled the service on the phone and I just want the phone back to get my numbers.

A: I’d turn it in without any second thought.

I found a cell phone in a large store’s parking lot once. I scanned through the stored numbers, and sure enough, there was a number marked “home.” All it took was a phone call to that number. Needless to say, the owner of the phone was quite relieved. I told him I’d leave it at the service desk. The whole thing took less than five minutes.

Q: PLEASE ADVISE… ???
I got hit in a car wreck. The other driver run a red light. The car he was driving had insurance coverage, and my car has insurance (liability coverage). My insurance company is not going to cover anything since it was not my fault and i pay for liability coverage only. ADDITIONALY THE OTHER DRIVER IS NOT LISTED IN THE OTHER CAR’S INSURANCE POLICY AND HE DOES NOT HAVE A DRIVER’S LICENCE, SO HIS INS COMPANY IS NOT GOING TO COVER EITHER. Please advice.

The repair for my car is about 3000 dlls…

Now it is funny the carrollton police came and gave us some forms to fill out and send to austin tx… and the other driver did not even get a fine for no DL.

A: your insurance should have coverage for uninsured drivers running into you. call them and ask.

Q: ( ^ _ ^ ) Old dude must have had some serious “glaucoma.” Your thoughts?
WASHINGTON (AFP) – A 72-year-old man was arrested in the US state of Maryland after more than a million dollars’ worth of marijuana was found in his car by a police officer who was helping him with his bags, police said Thursday.

The arresting officer had seen the suspect back his car into another vehicle outside a roadside convenience store in New Carrollton, Maryland, the town’s police chief, David Rice, told AFP.

“The officer ran a check on the driver and found out his license was suspended,” Rice said.

He then asked the driver if he could help him to get items out of the car before it was impounded, Rice said.

The man, whom Rice identified as New York City resident Rondell Cole, asked the policeman “to pop the trunk, and when he did, the man grabbed this really big duffel bag and asked the officer if he could grab the other one.”

According to chief of police Rice, the officer was struck by the strong odors emanating from the bag.

A canine unit was called in “and when the dog hit on it, we opened the bag and thought, oh wow,” said Rice.

Inside the two bags were several bales of marijuana, each weighing around 25 pounds (11 kilograms), Rice said.

The haul, which has an estimated street value of around 1.3 million dollars, was one of the biggest in Maryland, Rice said.
Excerpt from Ludacris’ song: “Tell me who’s your weed man and how do you smoke so good?” ( ^ _ ^ )

A: no, he wanted to live out the rest of his life on a “natural” high..
poor old geiser…

Q: What are some good bars Uptown to visit in New Orleans?
Yes, what a loaded and incredibly subjective question. I’ll be staying in the LGD (technically, Central City as I’ll be on the north side of St. Charles. While I plan to visit the quarter and Marigny a lot, this time I want to check things out on the other side of the city (from Canal to Carrollton).

Assume casual or dive atmosphere, so long as it’s entertaining. I won’t have a car, so distance and safety are both something of a concern — I’d prefer it not to be too out of the way or hard to locate. Thanks in advance.

A: Cooter Brown’s Tavern (509 S. Carrollton Ave., 866-9104; www.cooterbrowns.com) — Hundreds of rare imported beers and microbrews, not to mention New Orleans’ most palatable pub-grub menu, await you at this Riverbend tavern, which readers vote as the best place to spend fall Saturdays and winter Sundays. That it kick-started the welcome trend of wall-to-wall flat-panel televisions decorating even the city’s most rundown dive bars is just head on the proverbial pint.

Bruno’s Tavern (7538 Maple St., 861-7615; www.brunosbar.com)

The Bulldog (3236 Magazine St., 891-1516; 5135 Canal Blvd., 488-4191)

Superior Grill (3636 St. Charles Ave., 899-4200; www.superiorgrill.com) — In Superior parlance, a “pint-sized” margarita translates roughly to “you just ordered 16 ounces of Sauza Conmemorativo.” Already St. Charles’ early-bird hotspot before its recent extreme makeover, the now-enclosed patio means you can sip your citric concoction in comfort as opposed to braving the hellacious mid-afternoon heat. Add a basket of carne asada tacos and any hour becomes a happy one.

Tipitina’s (501 Napoleon Ave., 895-TIPS; www.tipitinas.com) — At Tipitina’s, “sweatin’ to the oldies” takes on a whole new meaning. Even Fess’ bust beads up on the hottest nights at this Uptown haunt, whose varied grooves ensure that there’s always something to get anyone’s feet moving. From jam bands to slam bands, brass bands to crass bands — so long as you can dance to it, Tip’s doesn’t discriminate.

Q: What is the quickest way to get to Annapolis, MD from Washington, DC?
Specifically, I want to know what the quickest way is, by metro, train, bus, taxi, or any combination of the four, to get to St. John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, from American University in Washington, D.C. According to Google Maps, the distance is 36 miles but it would take about 55 minutes to travel by car (most likely due to traffic I’m guessing). I’ve heard people taking the metro to the New Carrollton station and then taking either a commuter bus or taxi from there, but the buses only run during rush hours (which might defeat the purpose of trying to avoid traffic) and a taxi trip from there would cost about $50. Even though it’s expensive, Is that the quickest way possible? Or is there a quicker/less expensive way?

A: Least expensive option is a bus service such as Greyhound. It is also a pretty quick trip, but remember all vehicles on wheels will be subject to traffic jams. Annapolis is about an hour away, any way you travel. If you have a car, go ahead and drive. You won’t save barrels of time by using public transport, anyway.

Q: New job in New Carrollton, MD?
I’ll be relocating to the New Carrollton, MD area in September. As I’m from Philly, PA, I know nothing of the area.
Thank you in advance!

A: You can find out a lot of information at www.city-data.com. You could also search New Carrollton, MD, they might have a city website where you can find out about fees, etc.
